The Internet of Things #IoT #GeneXusTheBestOf2014

As the year draws to a close, many studies highlight the expansion of mobile technology, wearable devices and the installation of sensors. These elements are related to the Internet of Things, an area where the GeneXus Community has done extensive work.

Smart Devices have experienced explosive sales growth and at the same time computers no longer dominate the market. In September this year, smartphone sales accounted for 65% of total sales recorded in Uruguay.

The seventh edition of Ericsson Mobility Report confirms the accelerated pace of mobile technology. This trend also indicates that by 2020, 90 percent of the world's population over 6 years old will have a mobile phone. The new scenario created by the Internet of Things is completed when we take into account -according to a study by IDC- that today nearly 17 million devices are autonomously interconnected, and that by 2020 there will be 50 million interconnected devices in the world.

GeneXus has been present in this technological context. Recently, the first smart home developed with GeneXus technology was presented in Argentina. Remotely controlling the home is one of the biggest ambitions that's becoming a reality with the help of sensors and the automation of some functions of the house (lights, doors, alert notifications sent to cell phones).
