Nicolás Jodal recognized as Uruguay’s most reputable leader

This marks the fourth consecutive year that Nicolás Jodal, CEO and co-founder of GeneXus, tops this prestigious list highlighting key figures in Uruguay’s business ecosystem.



Nicolás Jodal has been recognized as the business leader with the best reputation in Uruguay, according to the Merco Empresas y Líderes Uruguay 2025 ranking.

Merco’s reputation monitor is based on a transparent and public methodology that includes multiple evaluation sources, such as surveys of stakeholders, experts, media, and executives. It is also audited by KPMG under the ISAE 3000 standard. This ensures that results, such as Jodal’s recognition, are based on real and verifiable perceptions. All weighting criteria and results are public and can be viewed at www.merco.info.

In this edition, second place went to Carlos Alberto Lecueder (Estudio Luis E. Lecueder), and third place to Gustavo Trelles (Banco Santander). Completing the top 10 are: Orlando Dovat (Zonamérica), Enrique Baliño (Xn Partners), Alejandro Ruibal (SACEEM), Eduardo Mangarelli (Universidad ORT), Julio César Lestido (Lestido), Diego Wollheim (Montes del Plata), and Martín Migoya (CEO of Globant), who rose from 27th place in 2024 to 10th in 2025.
 

Who is Nicolás Jodal?

Nicolás Jodal (Montevideo, August 9, 1960) is a Systems Engineer, graduated from the University of the Republic (Udelar), and an expert in Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology. With over three decades of experience in the industry, Jodal has built a reputation as a thought leader and a pioneer in the development of innovative tech solutions.

He is the CEO and co-founder of GeneXus, the leading company in the Low-Code software market that uses Artificial Intelligence to develop Mission-Critical applications. Founded alongside Engineer Breogán Gonda, GeneXus has been acclaimed for simplifying and accelerating the software development process, establishing itself as the go-to platform in over 55 countries. The creation of GeneXus earned both of them the National Engineering Award from the National Academy of Engineering of Uruguay.

Among the most notable achievements under his leadership are innovative products such as:
 
  • GeneXus Next, the new edition of GeneXus that enables the modeling and automatic generation of Mission-Critical applications, combining Generative AI with Symbolic AI.
  • Globant Enterprise AI, a platform designed to build, deploy, and govern intelligent agents and workflows powered by Generative AI in enterprise environments, without depending on the original programming language or tech stack.

GeneXus, which has been part of Globant’s product division since 2022, has a community of over 180,000 registered users and major clients like Mitsubishi Electric, CRRC Electric, Mizuho Bank, and the Panama Canal, among others.
 

Innovation in the face of global challenges

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jodal played a key role by leading the development of the Coronavirus UY app, which was downloaded over one million times. This tool provided essential services such as information, telemedicine, and exposure alerts, becoming a pillar of the Uruguayan government’s digital strategy. In recognition of his social contribution, he received the Premio 500 años Estrecho de Magallanes from the Government of Chile.
