GeneXus-developed ERP system has regional reach

It started as a solution developed in-house to meet a specific need of Grupo SESA Select, but due to its excellent performance it has been commercially distributed in several countries of the Americas.

Grupo SESA Select is part of Randstad, the second largest group worldwide in HR services.

Randstad is present in 52 countries with more than 5,400 offices, 34,000 employees and a daily workforce of over 700,000 collaborators delivering services at client companies.

Based in Holland, Randstad trades on the Amsterdam stock exchange and its consolidated sales in 2008 amounted to 2 billion Euro.

With a 30-year track record and experience serving companies, Grupo SESA Select provides comprehensive Human Resources and Specialized Temporary Staffing solutions to a large portfolio of national and international clients in a wide range of industries through its various business units: SESA Select (Provision of Specialized Temporary Staffing), Trading (Outsourcing Solutions), Telerecursos (Specialized HR Solutions for Contact Centers), Select Executives (Consulting and Executive Development), and Sapphire Technologies (HR Solutions Specialized in IT).

Background: Business need

Up to 2002, Grupo SESA Select used commercial software running under DOS for its HR management.

Back then, the group noticed the lack of comprehensive solutions for staffing and outsourcing services and the need to respond quickly to the legal and regulatory changes that occurred in relation to the employment of personnel.

In the field of labor solutions, there was the need for a comprehensive system that encompassed the recruiting stage (loading candidate résumés, applications for employment opportunities, and so on) up to hiring staff, including the processing of new developments, payroll accounting and payment, invoicing to clients, collection and related accounting.

Besides, all this had to be supported on multi-company and scalable software, so as to allow for growth together with the number of payroll transactions (25,000 per month).

In this context they realized the importance of having a Knowledge Base to replicate, once it had been completed, this experience in other companies of the holding that are dedicated to the same activity. Thus, GeneXus was selected to begin the development of the ERP, as it met all the expectations and offered an opportunity for tailored development and the flexibility required for this kind of task.

According to Sandra Boidi, Technology and Systems Manager at SESA Select, GeneXus was chosen for several reasons, including:

• No need for experts in a given programming language

In addition, the GeneXus distributor for Argentina, Toolnology/Accion Point, represents GeneXus and has assisted Grupo SESA Select, among other partners, from the beginnings of the new ERP.

SESA Select's ERP, the essence of success

Grupo SESA Select's ERP tool is an in-house development that comprises the following modules:

• Search and Selection
• Payroll accounting
• Invoicing
• Treasury
• Extranet

The ERP tool developed with GeneXus generates .Net applications in both Win and Web environments against SQL Server 2008, and is integrated into the following systems: Business Intelligence (SAP), CRM (Sugar), HR system for internal staff (MAP- GeneXus).

Maximiliano Schellhas, Chief Operating Officer of Grupo SESA Select, explained that the critical factors that make this ERP a success are related to the fact that it enables a complete traceability of all the stages involved in the business. Among other things, having developed the ERP with GeneXus makes it possible to respond quickly and effectively to the frequent labor and tax changes, and above all, provides scalability that enables them to offer new solutions as clients grow.

This solution covers the entire business sequence of clients from its initial stages, processing more than 25,000 monthly records and encompassing a wide range of different labor conditions. In addition, it allows them to assist the client in the use of new information technologies, whether at the internal level (new modules of the management system) or with their clients and providers (extranet, electronic invoicing, website, recruiting tools via SMS, etc).
