The current status of Artificial Intelligence shows that algorithms have been making things easier. We see models that actually work and are part of the automatic learning process.

Because GeneXus has been founded on AI since its very release over 30 years ago, we are now leaders in relation to tools based on artificial intelligence. However, the main problem in associating AI with Machine Learning is data compilation, and the success of AI and ML depends mostly on it. In order to define the models and situations to be used in the learning process, we must compile large volumes of data (Big Data).

Soon, we will be adding natural language processing (NLP) as part of the natural evolution of AI/ML, on which GeneXus is currently working to offer a GeneXus Chatbots Generator that could become a must for some of our customers.

As the world of digital transformation grows exponentially, the focus of all that digitalization quickly shifts from one technology enabler to the next.

A couple of years ago, everything was social, mobile, analytical, and in the cloud. Despite the fact that such technology continues to be enabling, it has also become commonplace among digital strategies. And that promotes the uprise of  renewed technology for providing the differential aspects required amidst an ocean of competitiveness and disruptors.

But, why is this the right time for AI/ML?

One of the main changes occurred in the past 30 years since the founding of GeneXus has been the power for processing. We are strongly more powerful for processing today than when GeneXus delivered its first solution. Another area that has changed drastically as far as hardware is concerned relates to the capability of the powerful Graphics Processing Units (GPU) for solving complex processes or other processes requiring the intensive use of computers. The promise for quantum computing to optimize algorithms will lead to the full power of quantum computers.

The cloud is also a significant facilitator. Now it is possible to rent its infrastructure as a favorite service (IaaS) and execute the most complex algorithm in the cloud without the delays implied in buying the hardware, hiring infrastructure staff, installing, testing and so on. We have become agile enough to start much quicker in the cloud than ever before.

Concerning data, abundance is a great advantage for automatic learning, and Big Data is part of the "learning" in ML, where the algorithm reviews the history and learns the data in order to aid in predicting the future.

Only 3% of all companies have fulfilled corporate digital transformation projects –and 92% of them have either achieved significant improvements or transformed their customers’ participation.

81% of business executives believe that platforms will end up remodeling industries into interconnected ecosystems.

More than half of the largest companies (80% of Global 500) will be joining the industry’s platforms in 2018.

The basis for a collaborative environment (interconnected ecosystems), the capacity for increasing the customer’s user experience and for allowing process digitalization, as well as communications and execution, are all founded on automation, and, in the end, decision-making is based on processes that are basically AI/ML.
