In December 2005 Zetasoftware started developing its administrative, accounting and contact management tool for small and medium companies: ZetaLIBRA. The project was based on the idea that a company, regardless of its size, should have access to quality IT tools that can help it optimize its administrative and accounting management.

The full-web tool was entirely developed with GeneXus technology because, according to Mario Celano, Zetasoftware Director, “only with GeneXus can you make a product like ZetaLIBRA, in just one and a half years, and made by just one full-time programmer from Monday to Monday”.

The project, that will be finally released in May of this year, stemmed from the need of the clients to have a reliable Data Base, to maintain the information of the company’s different shops integrated in real time and finally to unify commercial management and accounting.

However, a few days after the final version had been finished and due to an external requirement, they decided to migrate ZetaLIBRA from .Net/SQL Server to Java/DB2 Express-C. For this purpose they had to migrate 100 tables and almost 1,000 GeneXus objects in the shortest time possible.

When asked about the advantages of doing the migration with GeneXus, Celano quickly replies: “Countless. Suffice it to say that in just one day we changed the application from .Net/SQL to Java/DB2. Just one day. Wonderful.” The migration process received the last adjustments on the next day, when they had to tweak minor details. There were practically no modifications needed in the software of any of the GeneXus objects, because once the Model’s preferences had been configured and the objects generated, the system worked perfectly on the new platform.
