#GXev2 The significance of the GeneXus Community in this new release

Armin Bachmann, member of the GeneXus support staff shares, with the GeneXus Community, some of the most important landmarks on the way to releasing GeneXus X Evolution 2, such as the participation of the Beta-testers Community throughout the whole process.

GeneXus X Evolution 2 is now available! This has become reality thanks to the invaluable cooperation of our Community of beta testers. You, most of all, are quite aware of everything that this version implies and brings along. That’s why I want to address the Community today to thank all for their great support during the beta test period.

Throughout this one and a half year, we had exactly 1337 developers from 594 companies testing this version, which turned this process into one of the most intense in the history of GeneXus, all of which made GeneXus X Evolution 2 one of the versions with more testing done within the Community.

It all started a little over a year ago, when all we imagined was yet another upgrade for X Evolution 1, basically involving a simple pattern for smart devices. We also thought of the advantage of having a beta testing stage of its own, even if it were only for a couple of months. But with the smart device revolution and web advances running parallel, we started to dream of greater goals…

Here’s part of the story:

Following its announcement at the XXGX GeneXus Meeting, the first build was released on 29 October 2010 for the more daring, and soon came a Beta 1 for you all.

Thanks to your support and the passing of time, our dreams began to grow and the web upgrade evolved to generate and now follows standards such as HTML5 and CSS3. And that simple WorkWith pattern for smart devices became a full generator of native applications for the most popular platforms, namely Android, BlackBerry and iOS.

Now, with the recent release of GeneXus X Evolution 2, it is possible to develop more secure applications for yet more languages and platforms, with less time needed to achieve it.

So, THANK YOU all, beta testers!

We will continue to be in contact, even through this same forum, because as it is expressed here, this is only the end of the beginning.
