GeneXus and SAP: GiCi
Integrating technologies does not only allow offering better solutions but it also leverages the tools. GiCi has been able to integrate GeneXus and SAP in order to achieve profitability, expansion, and very importantly: better results.
At the beginning of 2006, a group of Chilean professionals saw a market opportunity that was not appropriately covered and, since they had the necessary knowledge and experience, they decided to exploit it. This is how GiCi was founded. It is a company that offers connectivity and integration solutions making special emphasis on projects requiring integration with SAP. It is especially suitable for those companies that already have this ERP, and who at the same time wish to expand their functionalities at a reasonable cost while deriving more efficiency from their current platform.
This is how GiOne was born, the company’s Middleware for integration to SAP. With an administration created in GeneXus, it enables easy access to SAP’s ERP from GeneXus itself by using web services, without requiring further knowledge of the SAP architecture or of ABAP4, because by using 100% GeneXus code you can develop any solution of this type. Similarly, by using GeneXus as a RAD, GiCi often develops projects for B2B or B2C that expose and inject data from and to SAP transparently and absolutely on line.
The company has offices in Santiago de Chile, and Buenos Aires, and it has clients in Chile, Argentina and Panama. Some of its most important clients are the Corporación para la Capacitación y Empleo de la Sociedad de Fomento Fabril (the largest intermediator of Chile's tax exemption for training); Hites, one of the main Chilean retailers and Autopista Central, the first outsourced highway of Chile (with over 1,200,000 clients), where GiOne is used to expose SAP’s functionalities and data.
GiCi has also developed other tools based on the same premises, such as WFMobile, which corresponds to the extension of SAP’s Workflows to platforms such as PDA´s and Blackberry in order to unlock administrative processes.
It is now the first Latin American company certified by RIM as business solution supplier for BlackBerry. “From this viewpoint, Genexus has become even stronger as our strategy for fast and effective development of de corporate data services, especially now as we are exploring the market of some other Latin American countries” states Álvaro Gómez, Project Director of GiCi.
Without a question, one of GiCi’s key elements is its innovation capacity, which is mainly due to the nature of the business. This is why they are constantly researching new technologies, seeking new solutions for business problems. “We are following Rocha’s evolution up close, because the GXextensions strategy will allow us to achieve substantial levels of integration between both products and will further facilitate Genexus development with SAP” emphasized Alvaro Gómez.
