GeneXus X Evolution 3 is a step forward for the GeneXus application development suite. This new version brings new features that make a difference in terms of application development for desktop environments, as well as for the Web and Mobile and Smart devices.
We’re at the end of a cycle that involved about a thousand beta testers of the worldwide GeneXus Community, who participated collaboratively in testing the three beta versions of Evolution 3.
“This RC enables us to show for the first time the features we've been working on very hard. For example, Responsive Web Design Applications, which make it possible for your web applications to adapt to the size of the device they are running on. Meanwhile, for mobile applications we have new events and controls that allow creating solutions which are more sophisticated than ever before. Also, we’ve significantly improved algorithms for data synchronization when using offline applications (applications in limited connectivity environments)”, comments Gastón Milano, GeneXus CTO.

In addition, many enhancements have been added to the development environment, ranging from cosmetic changes to improvements in module implementation, GeneXus Server integration, specification process, and more. Improvements related to BPM have also been introduced. For example, they allow for greater customization of the inbox, and the use of exclusively mobile processes and the corresponding mobile inbox.

Mobility

• Offline mobile applications (Android & iOS)

One of the features most frequently requested by our corporate customers has become true: offline mobile applications capable of synchronizing with a central server. This new feature solves common situations of applications in points of sale, events or places with limited or no Internet access, automatically synchronizing the data stored in the device with the database and vice versa. Be able to make transactions with enterprise level mobile applications with no Internet connection.

• Improved user experience and interface for generating mobile applications.

This means that developers now have new transitions and transformations, a wide range of animations, enhanced gesture support, additional advanced controls and many improvements to the user experience and interface.

• Windows 8

GeneXus now generates applications for Windows 8, which opens a new market for corporations or software houses, whose apps can be showcased in the Microsoft app store and run on Windows 8 devices. This creates branding opportunities and wider reach among users.
Web

• Improved user experience and interface for generating web applications

Web applications are more sophisticated, with enhanced flexibility and great improvements to the user’s experience. Web notifications, progressive degradation, full Ajax support, and SEO-friendly single-page apps are the main features of the web application generator included in the RC.

• Responsive Web Design Applications

This enables your web applications to be run and displayed on any device size and resolution.
Enterprise solutions

Enterprise solutions not only have to meet web or mobile requirements. To create enterprise solutions, improved performance is always required, as well as high levels of security and scalability. These are the pillars this version is based on.
In addition, since GeneXus X Evolution 3 incorporates navigation improvements, solutions built with the security module can be integrated with other applications, using single sign on. What’s more, GeneXus’ Business Process Management Suite (GXflow) is more flexible and customizable than ever before, with dynamic forms that can be defined while installing or running the application. Also, a Mobile Inbox has been added to the Suite!
Optimized Application Development

• Modules for Knowledge Bases (GeneXus KBs)

The addition of Modules for GeneXus Knowledge Bases has made programming sophisticated systems even simpler. With modular programming, systems can be divided into subsets to simplify the work of development teams. This is a new feature of GeneXus that will benefit both simple and complex applications.

• The GeneXus language has been improved in terms of build speed, bringing shorter prototyping cycles as a result.

New developments in the GeneXus Suite
In addition to the above benefits, Business Process Management with GeneXus now supports new application architectures as the engine can be in a different database or scheme. And last but not least, the objects for mobile devices (such as SD panels) can be associated with BPM diagrams. As a result, completely mobile processes can now be defined.
Collaborative development using GXserver has also been improved to support larger teams, working on Knowledge Bases that grow every day.
