Techy for a Day 2025: Students Build Apps with GeneXus in Minutes

As part of International Girls in ICT Day, we joined a new edition of "Techy for a Day," an event aimed at motivating and inspiring teenagers and young people to explore their futures in the world of technology.

"Techy for a Day" is an initiative led by the Cámara Uruguaya de Tecnologías de la Información (CUTI), with support from the Administración Nacional de Educación Pública (ANEP). It is specifically designed for those who are in the process of choosing a career path or are curious to learn more about the tech industry. This event is a great opportunity for younger generations to discover how to innovate, create, and build a career in an ever-evolving industry.

For this edition, GeneXus opened the doors of its headquarters in Montevideo, Uruguay, to welcome a group of students from Centros Educativos Impulso, an institution founded in 2013 with the goal of providing quality education, closing the learning gap in underprivileged communities, and preventing high school dropout in Uruguay.

The day kicked off with a presentation by Aníbal Gonda, GeneXus Partner Manager, who gave a global overview of software’s impact, explained the concept of “unicorn” companies, and highlighted GeneXus’ role in both the local and international tech ecosystems in collaboration with Globant.

During his talk, Gonda delivered a powerful message: “It’s essential that young people choose a career path based on what they’re truly passionate about, because that’s where it all begins. To achieve this, I encourage you to reach out to professionals, visit companies, and ask as many questions as you can. It’s also important to understand that life is full of changes, and the ability to adapt will always be a valuable tool. As for GeneXus, mastering this platform will not only allow you to create your own solutions but also open up job opportunities in thousands of companies around the world that trust this technology.”

The event continued with testimonies from Francisco Cabanillas (GeneXus Product Developer), Sofía Delfino (GeneXus Quality & Delivery), Santiago Dono (GeneXus Quality & Delivery), and José Echague (GeneXus Product Developer), who shared their personal stories about how they chose their career paths. They also spoke about their roles within GeneXus’ development and testing teams.

Later, Fabián Bonilla (GeneXus Technical Support) led a hands-on workshop where students got to experience how to build an application using GeneXus Next and how to create an intelligent assistant with Globant Enterprise AI. Within minutes, the participants saw their ideas come to life as functional apps they tested on their own phones and later shared with friends and family.

As a grand finale, all attendees received a gift kit with GeneXus-branded goodies and participated in raffles for promotional items and specialized training courses, further strengthening their connection to the world of software development.

“On behalf of Centros Educativos Impulso, we would like to deeply thank GeneXus for opening the doors of their company on such a special day as International Girls in ICT Day. For us, it was much more than just a visit—it was an inspiring experience. It allowed us to see firsthand the work they do, discover real stories in tech environments, and feel part of a space that often seems so distant. Thank you for the warm welcome, for every word shared, for the lovely gifts you prepared so thoughtfully, and for making us feel valued and heard,” the students expressed in gratitude.

With this initiative, GeneXus reaffirms its commitment to education, inclusion, and the nurturing of new generations of tech talent in Uruguay and around the world.
