Sales online with GeneXus
E-commerXe exemplifies GeneXus 7.0's jump for the applications on the Internet. In this case we are talking about a sales' system through the net that is today used by a Uruguayan enterprise dedicated to the sale of insoles for enterprises.
The Servicio Integral de Oficina (SIO) (Integral Office Service) was born in March 1999 with the aim of satisfying all the buying needs of an enterprise. As a difference to a traditional stationer's, SIO offers, apart from computing insoles, work uniforms, chemist's goods, enterprise presents and even the office coffee, its managers Pablo Decaro and Leonardo Rando explained.
Based on ARTech Shopping Mall business object – developed with GeneXus 6.1- http://www.office.com.uy, SIO's site on the Internet was put into production in September of the same year.
The business objects are modularized components that are integrated to the knowledge base. Shopping Mall is the business object aimed at applications for selling through the Internet, and ARTech introduced it at the X GeneXus Users' Meeting.
The first incursion on the Internet allowed them recognizing the needs of the enterpriser that buys through the Web. The system was slow for the user that had to incorporate the products one by one in the trolley. Juan Pablo Crespi of Consultoría de Sistemas
(http://www.consis.com.uy) and winner of the prize to the best integrator of new technologies at the XI GeneXus Users' Meeting converted such a model to the Ceibo version of GeneXus 7.0 and incorporated the use of HTML by using the Web Panels. When regenerating the site, Crespi started a fast and personalized system for buying, in three steps and that allows performing searches and queries on line.
When entering http://www.office.com.uy with the name of the user and the personal key, a page with all the goods that the client has previously bought is displayed. This way, the user must only mark those products that he wants to acquire and say the quantity in an only step. At every moment, the trolley is there, showing the amount of goods that the client selects. After selecting the products, you have to confirm the purchase and wait for the goods.
SIO offers 1500 products on line at the price of the local market distributors and is in charge of the delivery in Montevideo in a maximum of 24 hours as it arrives via Netbox, to the whole country. The enterprise uses a traditional way of payment –not online- with several options (cash, cheque, etc.) that the user chooses when he registers.
However, the cultural factors make that the clients do not use this very much. Among the 80 enterprises that use its services it does not reach a 5% the percentage that orders goods through the Internet, Decaro said. In order to encourage the users to use the system, SIO always offers four sales –dynamic promotions- in the first page of the site, which you only access through the Web. It also worries about listing the products preferred by each client, making a pretended purchase, in such a way that they only have to enter the site in order to use the personalized system.
The young enterprisers want to reach the final consumer and not assisting the enterprises only and study the possibility of getting associated to a financial institution and providing their clients the best buying card.
E-commerXe is an application that can be totally personalized and adapted to the needs of any enterprise that wants to perform sales through the Internet. Moreover, it is possible to integrate it with other GeneXus applications –for example stock and invoicing – in such a way that the sales through the Internet are completely incorporated to the enterprise. Consultoría de Sistemas performs adequate developments, using always GeneXus, and commercializes accounting packets, clients' management (CRM) and as well as e-commerXe, the final product of ARTech's Shopping Mall remodeling.
