As usual, U2 incorporates corrections and enhancements suggested by GeneXus 9.0 users while adding interesting new features.
Among other new features in GeneXus Development Environment we have: a new value of the Field Exit property: "passing last char" in web applications controls. This value allows defining that, as the user completes a web form, when the last character of the field is typed the focus moves to the next form control automatically and the user does not need to press Enter or Tab. We also incorporated the possibility to define attribute subtypes that were already defined as formulas, which enables to define the formula that defines an attribute only once in the knowledge base and then create subtypes of this attribute.
Regarding data management, we have incorporated new properties for Blob management in a web environment, which specifically allows controlling the extension of the files uploaded and maintain information, even the name of the file. This is particularly useful when saving files of different sizes in the Blob field.
Another interesting feature is the “Data Independent Specification”, whose objective is to perform a more detailed process of specification to determine whether it is really necessary to regenerate/compile the specified objects. With this, specification takes a little more time, buy the subsequent generation, testing and deployment steps are optimized. In the past, when the structure of a table was modified (e.g.: an attribute was added or deleted), any object referring to that table had to be regenerated, regardless of whether the modification really affected the object. Now, if a change in a table related to the object does not affect the object, such as when adding attributes to a table, the object is not regenerated.
Among other enhancements in the Java and .NET generators, we would like to highlight the optimization of the HTML code generated in read-only controls of web objects that are not modified on runtime, and the support to function keys in web applications, i.e.: that any event may be triggered using a function key, F2, F3, etc.
Additionally, both the .NET and the Java Generators now have pop3/smtp security, which allows sending and receiving e-mails using GMail, among other.
Among other new features, GeneXus .NET Generator allows accessing the Postgres and Informix DBMS's via ADO .NET.
