Atlanta

(11/03/2013-15:28)
Citizenship 2.0 in Atlanta (Georgia, United States) now has a new application to collaboratively help optimize new projects related to traffic improvement.
The City and Transportation

Atlanta is a mega-city that hosts a wide variety of businesses and is also considered a transportation hub. Its metropolitan area is home to about 5.5 million inhabitants, and is known worldwide for being the world headquarters of The Coca-Cola Company, AT&T Mobility and Delta Air Lines. In addition, it contains the third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies according to Wikipedia.

The metropolitan area boasts a comprehensive network of freeways that radiate out from the city, as well as three main interstate freeways whose routes converge.

The large number of vehicles brought about by the city’s reliance on cars has resulted in heavy traffic, which also makes Atlanta one of the most dangerous cities for pedestrians.

Opportunity

The problems caused by traffic and vehicle congestion have led to a referendum on regional transportation that will be held on July 31. In response to the urgent need for a solution to this problem, the Smart Device application TransForm Atlanta has been developed to promote citizen involvement and alleviate the traffic issues in Atlanta, in a collaborative way.

The application: TransForm Atlanta

The purpose of this application is to manage and provide information about transit and traffic incidents in order to achieve a global evaluation of the options available to address and solve the existing transportation needs.

From the application, users can post comments, read and add notes to the project’s maps, and upload image or video files. In addition, the application can be configured to enable participants to interact by responding to other users' comments or with the project team. These comments can be read, followed and answered in accordance with local, state and federal requirements.
