Security Update required to support Strict Mode for Redirect URIs in Facebook applications using GAM

To prevent their apps from ceasing to function on March 1st, 2018, all users who use GAM and Facebook authentication must install a fix of GAM.

For security reasons, Facebook has introduced changes for handling redirect URIs in the authentication process.

Starting next March, this breaking change will make it mandatory to list the redirect URIs used by the application in setting up the Facebook app (Use Strict Mode for redirect URIs).

This applies to the applications with GAM (Web and Smart Devices) which resort to Facebook for authentication.

As of March 1st, 2018, the applications that continue to function today because the requirement for an exhaustive listing of redirect URIs is still not in place, will no longer function. This was the reason for a fix that was done to support this configuration.

It is strongly recommend to apply this fix immediately, in addition for the need to establish the settings necessary in the Facebook application.
  1. The configuration required in the Facebook application is as follows: In the “Valid OAuth redirect URIs” field, set up the return URI of GAM: http://<server>/<base url>/oauth/gam/callback
  2. Update the fix in the GAM. Read details on how to apply the fix here.
