Apps: The present and future of productive processes within companies

Applications make it possible to simplify business processes and accelerate internal and customer-related operations, as well as reduce operating costs.

Continuous growth and booming demand for smart devices are currently apparent, as various studies have shown. Apps, which are no longer being used for entertainment purposes only, have become transactional business tools. The reason is that companies have realized that these solutions enable employees to be more mobile and, consequently, more productive. Also, that they allow for instant, continuous communication with the company and its clients, especially when employees perform fieldwork.

Up to last year, approximately 22 percent of companies already had a mobile application strategy in place; 15 percent of them were in an implementation stage, and 19 percent had plans to do so within 6 - 18 months, according to a study by GeneXus and IDC. This confirms that mobile application development is gaining significant momentum in the business sector, as it brings important benefits such as increased productivity and efficiency in relation to processes, time reductions and all-time access to information. As a result, more than half of the workforce in 2 out of 10 companies in Latin America are mobile workers. What's more, the trend indicates that by 2020, 90 percent of the world's population aged over six will own a mobile phone. At present, about 17 million devices are autonomously interconnected, and by 2020 there will be 50 million interconnected devices on a global scale.

According to Nicolás Jodal “applications are being used for business purposes on a massive scale, and for this reason identifying and planning business strategies around the use of mobile devices will be a key issue in company boardrooms in 2015”. He also adds that “today, we need to adapt to technological advancements and use them to our advantage in order to stay competitive in an increasingly demanding market; in other words, we can say that failing to understand the fast pace of technology and missing the next wave can be a severe setback”.

That's why GeneXus generates multiplatform applications which are native for mobile devices and compatible with all web browsers, capable or running on IBM, Apache and Windows servers. Understanding that the world has become more mobile has led us to find increasingly flexible solutions, designed to meet the needs of every customer.
