Application for citizen involvement: TransForm Atlanta #GXev2

Citizenship 2.0 in Atlanta (Georgia, United States) now has a new application to collaboratively help optimize new projects related to traffic improvement. The application called TransForm Atlanta is a technology solution developed with GeneXus X Evolution 2, and will be very useful to a region of about 5.5 million inhabitants considered to be a top business city and a primary transportation hub.

The City and Transportation

Atlanta is a mega-city that hosts a wide variety of businesses and is also considered a transportation hub. Its metropolitan area is home to about 5.5 million inhabitants, and is known worldwide for being the world headquarters of The Coca-Cola Company, AT&T Mobility and Delta Air Lines. In addition, it contains the third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies according to Wikipedia.

The metropolitan area boasts a comprehensive network of freeways that radiate out from the city, as well as three main interstate freeways whose routes converge.

The large number of vehicles brought about by the city’s reliance on cars has resulted in heavy traffic, which also makes Atlanta one of the most dangerous cities for pedestrians.

Opportunity

The problems caused by traffic and vehicle congestion have led to a referendum on regional transportation that will be held on July 31. In response to the urgent need for a solution to this problem, the Smart Device application TransForm Atlanta has been developed to promote citizen involvement and alleviate the traffic issues in Atlanta, in a collaborative way.

The application: TransForm Atlanta

The purpose of this application is to manage and provide information about transit and traffic incidents in order to achieve a global evaluation of the options available to address and solve the existing transportation needs.

From the application, users can post comments, read and add notes to the project’s maps, and upload image or video files. In addition, the application can be configured to enable participants to interact by responding to other users' comments or with the project team. These comments can be read, followed and answered in accordance with local, state and federal requirements.

Parsons Brinckerhoff selected the Smart Device Generator of GeneXus X Evolution 2 because it makes it possible to easily and quickly develop native applications for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), Android, BlackBerry and HTML5. By declaring the existing knowledge on the business, the company automatically obtained an application for the above platforms.

With the Parsons Brinckerhoff Smartphone application, an informed public can become an engaged community whose involvement can help reduce the lack of information and make sure that the project is implemented in a way that is transparent for the citizens”, affirms the company that developed TransForm Atlanta with GeneXus X Evolution 2.
