GXquery 4.0: New beta version offers an easy way to try GeneXus’ reporting capabilities

We’d like you to take part in the beta test! This new version includes key new features in the API, User Defined Attributes, permission management and, among other optimizations, enhanced usability for defining filters.

GXquery is the tool that integrates into GeneXus and allows creating reports from operational databases. Its new beta version brings many features to be taken into account when running dynamic queries.

You’re invited to give it a try and join the beta testing process: www.gxtechnical.com/betatesters

The key features included in this version are as follows:

User Defined Attributes (UDA)

They allow defining formulas that involve various operations and the use of methods. In addition, these formulas can be named in such a way so as to use their names as if they were attributes in the database.

Permission management

The GAM–based security module allows managing users, roles and the permissions used to define the attributes available to users for making queries. In addition, access restrictions can be set to data in the selected attributes. In this way, we could restrict sales representatives to making queries about their sales only, and not about those of other sales representatives.

GXquery API: integrate queries into your solution

This API exposed as an external object in GeneXus makes it easy to connect to GXquery metadata, make a list of queries and run them. This allows developing proprietary interfaces for performing these types of tasks and embedding them in your web and smart device applications.

Usability improvements for filter definition

When a filter is defined while editing a query, depending on the data type of the attribute over which the filter is to be applied, several dialog boxes are displayed to make this definition more intuitive. In addition, improvements have been made to the dialog box used to define expressions and the possibility to use parameters included in the query as part of the filters.

Other optimizations

  • Definition and use of parameters
  • Weighted average
  • Support for Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL and DB2 Universal Database (DB2 for iSeries coming soon).
  • Multiple data stores per metadata
  • Shared queries are grouped according to the users who created those queries.

REASONS TO USE GXquery

. Simplicity to create reports: GXquery guides the user through the process of formulating queries in an intuitive way.

. Intelligence for creating reports. Users can create their own reports, which makes them more independent from the IT department.

. Access to necessary data according to user profiles.
